My name is Simran Gupta. My favorite art medium is watercolor. I like watercolor because it allows me to achieve vibrant, flowing abstract pieces, as well as controlled realistic ones. I find that watercolor lends itself to portraiture really well because you can layer colors to achieve different tones in a painting. I live in Irvine with my mom, dad, and older brother. When I'm not drawing, I can be found dancing, or playing the guitar. I've done dance since I was three years old. I also like to read comics in my free time. I get a lot of my inspiration for art from the comics I read.
I came to OCSA because OCSA allows me to pursue art without being limited to one block in my academic day. After school activities such as robotics or team sports never appealed to me. I wanted to explore art and my creative side, and OCSA gives me that opportunity.
I want to pursue character design. My dream is to work for DC comics. I love reading their comics, but I don't think there are enough independent female heroes, like Wonder Women. Most of them are just the mirrors of pre-existing male characters like Batgirl and Supergirl. I want to design more female superheroes.
