Art has been by my side ever since I can remember. It's something that I used to communicate with my family. I grew up moving from country to country, so I had a hard time adjusting to the environment. I wasn't sure whether I was supposed to speak Korean or English at home. But there was one way of communicating with my family members that would break down all language barriers: it was art.
Ever since I was young, I used art to express myself. Art eventually became more than just a way of communicating, it became somewhat of a friend. That is what art is to me, something that I can always rely on to be with me.
I plan to inspire and be inspired by diverse talent from whichever college I attend. I want to expand my knowledge parameters in different schools of thought to innovate and create in ways that I haven’t before. I want to collaborate with like- and different-minded peers, enriching my cultural and intellectual understanding so that my art reflects my growth and development so that I may create a greater and lasting impact beyond the communities that I'm a part of.
My advice for my younger OCSA Classmates-
It's important to challenge yourself, but you shouldn't push yourself too hard. Make sure to take breaks and make a lot of great memories with friends. Enjoy your time at school.
