My name is Randy Au / My students call me Mr. Au. I teach 9th grade Beginning Ceramics and Advanced Ceramics
to 10 th , 11 th and 12th grade students
I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. I graduated from Punahou High School and did college work at Biola
University and finished at Cal. State Fullerton. I started my art business in 1987 and became a fulltime studio artist
in 1990. I have been in Santa Ana most of my art career and just started working at OCSA in 2002. Outside of OCSA
I love working in the studio, creating things that my mind dreams up. I love doing shows and meeting people and
sharing my art with them. During the summer I help organize and manage the OC Pottery venue at the Orange
County Fair.

Can you share some of your favorite class projects for the Fall 2020 semester?
My favorite project is our first project, the Pinch Portrait with an Unexpected Element. I think I like this because it
helps me get to know my students’ personalities and interests as well as I like to teach the pinch method of clay
manipulation and to explore the creativity of the unexpected.
